Rape culture has reared its head that is ugly in news once more. At fault of late is previous Stanford University athlete Brock Turner, caught in a heinous work of intimate attack against an unconscious “Emily Doe” behind a dumpster.
The important points for this full situation are unambiguous, the victim’s statement heart-rending, Turner’s efforts to dodge justice deplorable, plus the judge’s phrase dissatisfying. In no other situation gets the narrative of the toxic campus rape tradition been therefore compelling.
This event raises the questions that are usual. Is this horrendous crime symptomatic of a bigger trend that is social? Or perhaps is it an aberration, annoying but with few implications for decent individuals? There’s no simple reply to this.
